From board at waterfordhomes.org Wed Mar 3 09:36:23 2010 From: board at waterfordhomes.org (board at waterfordhomes.org) Date: Wed, 3 Mar 2010 10:36:23 -0500 Subject: [Email] NEW SCAM ALERT Message-ID: <004901cabae7$48462a10$d8d27e30$@org> NEW SCAM ALERT Type: U.S. Census Scam Method of Delivery: In Person Primary Region Effected: All Regions (National) Source: Better Business Bureau (www.BBB.org) Scam Characteristics: Beginning March of this year the U.S. Census Bureau's will send out a short questionnaire to every household in the U.S. and Puerto Rico in an effort to collect important demographic data. As a citizen, you are required by law to respond to the 10 short questions. From April to July, those that haven't completed their census will receive a visit at their home address from a census taker.. Identity criminals are taking advantage of the census law and targeting unsuspecting victims in an attempt to steal sensitive information. The scams perpetrated range from fraudulent emails designed to obtain sensitive information to attempts to impersonate census collectors. Most Citizens don't think twice about sharing personal information with a census worker, and that's why these scams can be very effective. It's important to remember there are distinct differences between a real census worker and an identity thief posing as a census worker. U.S. Census workers will have identification, a handheld device and a confidentiality notice. But these things can be easily fabricated, so it's important to know what census workers will not do: .They will not ask for your Social Security number or financial information, e.g. bank or credit card accounts. .They will not ask you for money or say that you owe money. .They will not harass or intimidate you. .They will not contact you by email- only by phone, by mail, or in person. For more information on this scam or variations of it visit the Social Security Administration's website at www.ssa.gov. Use the search function and enter keywords "email scam". It is recommended that you follow universal safety rules-- even with U.S. Census workers. For example, avoid inviting strangers into your home, and be suspicious when someone asks for your personal and sensitive information. To learn more about the 2010 Census and U.S. Census workers, call (800) 923-8282 or visit them online at www.2010census.gov. The final reaming of the 29-inch well hole to 180 feet below land surface has been completed. On Tuesday, March 9th, the driller will set the stainless steel screen and casing to a total depth of 177 feet. This will be followed by backfilling the remaining space outside the casing with clean gravel pack. THIS WORK IS SCHEDULED FOR TUESDAY MARCH 9th starting at 7 a.m. and will run into the evening (possibly as late as midnight). Once the procedure starts it cannot be stopped. The running equipment, mainly a generator for lights after dark, will be screened to reduce the noise as much as possible. The placing of the gravel into the space around the screen and casing may also generate some noise. Notices regarding this issue were hand-delivered to residents of the impacted areas on Friday, March 5. His choice of trees and plants are more than appropriate. We requested the the hedge that is being planted between the trees be planted double so we can obtain a better sound barrier. He will be going to his superiors to get permission. We also requested a cluster of palm trees at both corners of 28th and 24th Streets. It was also mentioned by a resident that trees should be planted on the south side on the sidewalk on 10th Street to help shade the walkway , as it is so very hot , if we ever return to hot South Florida weather. It was a good meeting and I am hoping for good results. Thank all who attended. It does make a difference. I also thank those of you who sent e-mails supporting our efforts. I mentioned these to the city landscaper . Your support helps us gain results. The question came up to remove all three tall ficus trees on the WEST SIDE OF THE CANAL since they don't hold up well in storms. Let me know if you have any objection to the removal of these trees. We are making head way to protect our community. Please let me know your thought, and inform our Commission, so I can include them in future meetings. Commissioner Ganz has been active and involved in Waterford Homes concerns about our safety and the Well field project. Keep us informed and share your thoughts and opinions so we can make our community a better and safer place to live. In the U.S. where we are already feeling the impacts of climate change, Earth Hour sends a clear message that Americans care about this issue and want to turn the lights out on dirty air, dangerous dependency on foreign oil and costly climate change impacts, and make the switch to cleaner air, a strong economic future and a more secure nation. Participation is easy. By flipping off your non-essential lights this Saturday, March 27th at 8:30 P.M. you can join 1 billion concerned citizens throughout the world calling for action to save our planet for future generations. You can add your name and city to the list of participants at www.myEarthHour.org. Since its inception three years ago, Earth Hour's non-partisan approach has captured the world's imagination and became a global phenomenon. Nearly one billion people turned out for Earth Hour 2009 - involving 4,100 cities in 87 countries on seven continents. Last year, 80 million Americans and 318 U.S. cities officially took action with their light switch, joining iconic landmarks from around the world that went dark for Earth Hour. Earth Hour is easy, fun and absolutely free. To get more information on Earth Hour 2010, visit www.myEarthHour.org. I hope you'll join us, and encourage people you know in our community to also take part - and send me before and after pictures as you turn out the lights to share your experience! Don't forget - Saturday, March 27th at 8:30 P.M., take action, turn out the lights! As always, if there is anything that you need assistance with, please feel free to contact my office at (954) 357-7002. Thank you for all that you do! Kristin Kristin D.
