We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause. * Downrite Engineering has completed the water main installation from the Floridan Aquifer 2 (FA 2) well site to the Water Plant and is preparing to run the pressure testing on the last section. He stated the FDOT will be spending $75,000 to install a sidewalk on the north side of SW 10th Street from Military Trail to Powerline Road part of the funds will be used for landscaping in this area. This is part of the resurfacing project that will happen in 2012 which he is overseeing. This was not a discussion but rather a statement that this is what is going to happen. FDOT will take input from the City on the type of landscaping and the City can include irrigation if there is enough money. He then stated the landscaping that will be installed with become the responsibility of the City to maintain. It was pointed out that people will be able to walk or ride bikes from the corner of Military Trail west to Powerline Road North to Hillsboro Blvd and back east to Military. There are no plans for a sidewalk along Military south to SW 10th Street. There are no plans for any type of barrier from the street to the sidewalk to protect pedestrians. Charlie DeBrusco commented that FDOT has standards in place for this type of plan and they will follow the set guidelines for construction. Scott Peterson did state that this is strictly a resurfacing project and not a widening project. At the end of the meeting, Commissioner Ganz stated that there will be a public hearing for input from the residents about a berm on the south side of the wellfield project but a date has not been set for this meeting. Thank you for any help you can give those less fortuante than us. Denise Bogner 1157 SW 26th Ave. SFRTA MOUNTS EFFORT TO HELP OUR COMMUNITY The post-holiday season is one of the bleakest for area food banks. Shelves are usually empty after fulfilling the needs of South Florida residents throughout the month of December, and the spirit of holiday generosity seems to disappear after the New Year. To refill the coffers, South Florida Regional Transportation Authority / Tri-Rail team members will be conducting a food drive at each of Tri-Rail's 18 train stations on Thursday, January 14 from 6 to 9 a.m. to coincide with the rush-hour schedule. The effort has been dubbed the "Food Train." The proceeds of this food drive will go to "Feeding South Florida," which in turn, distributes the goods to various organizations that help those in need. Cardboard boxes for collecting items will be placed on station platforms. Staff members from the SFRTA / Tri-Rail will be joined by members of the SFRTA / Tri-Rail's contractor team including, Amtrak, Bitner Goodman, Bombardier, Meridian, Veolia and Wackenhut, who will be on-hand to greet passengers and well-wishers to receive their donations. Acceptable items for donations are non-perishable food items, pet supplies and pet foods, as well as school supplies. All items should be unopened and unused. Please help us to make this a memorable effort by hopping onboard the "Food Train" and starting the New Year off right!
