I have started to engage Teco gas to start service for our home. If you are
interested in getting gas, please email me ASAP as now is the time to take
advantage of the cost savings. The more people the order, the less it will
cost for others. 

This is especially true for residents along the eastern side of the
community.

The nearest gas line is along SW 24th Ave, and those that reside along the
road are perfect candidates.

With the onset of CNG (compressed natural gas) for newer automobiles around
the corner, it will be one motivation to get natural gas for your home.

Nothing better than filling up at home and in lieu of the local gas station.

There are many other benefits such as backup generator, cooking, grill,
dryer, heater etc.  having natural gas is also an added plus to the value of
your home.

I can go on, but you can do your own research. But please do email me over
the next few days if you are even remotely interested so I can add you to
the list for consideration and to have the engineer work up a quote.

Early this afternoon a BSO officer noticed a car parked in a swale leaking 

 oil into the drain.  This started a series of events that included Code
Enforcement, BSO,  and  city personnel.                      

The event was brought under control when a neighbor volunteered to clean the
drain grate and place 

a  catch basin under the car.  Our commissioner Ganz  got involved and
prevented any towing of the vehicle since neighbors promised

to watch the catch basin and insure that no oil would drip into the drain.
Through  all of this I learned that the City is having problems with drains
that  are covered  and or clogged with  trash, plastic bags, and leaking
cars.  We will be getting more information about this problem,  We need to
be concerned about the damage to our water system.  As I  get  more
information I will pass it on.  Thanks for your efforts in keeping these
areas clear and clean.

Yesterday, several residents encountered odd visits from young men that
claimed to be doing a school research project.

When asked for ID, they were unable to present one. Then was watched jumping
into a white jeep that sped off moments later.

Attached at the photos taken from one of my security cameras.

Please be aware that these tactics are typically used to look for
opportunities of home burglaries.  They scour the neighborhood looking to
see who is home, and what you have inside.

This person even asked what time it was in attempt for you to go and look to
see what time it is, all the while this person can look inside your home.

The result of tonight's  meeting is as follows:

        A  berm  4' high  x 5'  wide, at the top,  will be created going
east from 28th

to the  existing  hill  just west of the canal

 

Trees and shrubs will be planted on the top to create a hedge, and on the
side  of the incline.

The city will maintain this area and will install irrigation to keep plants
alive

 

A similar planting will be completed on the east side of the canal were a
berm

exists.  The ficus hedge that is there will be left in place and additional
plants and trees

will be planted,  along with irrigation.

 

Very few residents attended.  In attendance, however  was Mayor Noland,

and Commissioner Ganz.  Congratulations to Mrs. Dowling whose property is
right there  spoke 

about her desire to have the area landscaped properly and most of all
maintained by the 

city.  She succeeded !  The  tall trees that are presently there and not
maintained will be removed to allow an uniterupted

berm to take it's place.

I wish some landscaping, irrigation, beutification and general upkeep would be done on SW 15th St. On the fence line separating Grabel Moving & Storage and our houses, as was promised 6 yrs ago. Its an eyesore, unkept, & full of broken promises.
My neighbors and I are not happy that this area has been neglected by Grabel and the city for so long.

I am not sure if this is city owned land or owned by Grabel.  I know the 
City assisted in getting the company to install the fence years ago and also 
stepped in when part of it fell down and they were not replacing it.  The 
City has also been helpful in posting the NO TRUCK signs as you enter onto 
15th Street as many trucks thought you could get to their property from our 
community.

I suggest that you attend Commissioner Ganz's meeting this coming Wednesday, 
2/25, 7 pm at Constitution Park.

Mr. Blem,

I agree with you, enough is enough with this property.

I have had several meeting with the new Interim City Manager Burgess Hanson
to address this issue. I have been working on this since I was elected last
March and became increasingly frustrated with this particular location and
the response by the former City Manager.

We are working on it and I will update you very soon on the course of action
that will be taken.

This is a reminder to all residents to please fill out this short survey.

Even if you do not think you will ever use natural gas, please do take the
time to process this survey. Teco needs this information.

You participation is needed for this process to be engineered correctly.

Some of you had inquired on when natural gas will become available and how
much it will cost.

All of this will depend on participation by homeowners. The more responses
the faster this will all come together.

Some of you are already able to get natural gas today if you are along SW
24th Ave.

Submissions are due by Monday morning, so please do take a moment this

Also, someone asked me last night about CNG (compressed natural gas) as they
were unclear about it. This is an effort to where natural gas compressed via
a small compressor that mounts in your garage wall, will fill your (CNG
equipped) automobile safely in your garage in lieu of running to a gas
station. There is about a 40% savings when using CNG over gasoline. There is
also a federal incentive (PL 109-58) which provides for an income tax credit
for the purchase of a new, dedicated alternative fuel vehicle of 50% of the
incremental cost of the vehicle, plus an additional 30% if the vehicle meets
certain tighter emission standards. These credits would range from $2,500 to
$32,000 depending on the size of the vehicle. The credit is effective on
purchases made after December 31, 2005 and expires on December 31, 2010.
Also, did you know that CNG pollutes up to 90% less and, since it is "carbon
lite" and lacks other pollutants, it's a bargain; a bargain that beats even
plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles that require more power generation
from utilities.

Deerfield Beach deputies have closed both directions of Military Trail from
45 St. to 48 St. while Deerfield Beach Fire Rescue controls a fire in a
nature preserve in that area. The road closure is expected to possibly last
2 hours. Please avoid this area if possible. 

 

Also.

 

Detectives arrested a suspect for burglary in the Villages of Hillsboro. He
is also suspected of other crimes in this area. The investigation continues.
Please call 911 if you see any suspicious activity in your neighborhood.
