Last night my neighbor told me there are two hawks and an eagle living in the preserve off Military Trail that are hunting squirrels and other small game in our neighborhood. He actually saw one swoop down and snatch a squirrel.



These raptors have been known, in urban areas, to also try to kill small dogs. He told me because we have two small Shih Tzus. Also, our pet sitter said she'd seen two large birds of prey near the lake a while back.



Be careful if you own small dogs.

We live on the lake and have also seen the hawks. Although it has been a few months...thanks for the reminder. We have a mini schnauzer, but I think she is too big for the hawks. Too bad they don't seem to be going for the skinks or iguanas!

Over the weekend many of the young boys have been fishing at the bridge on SW 28th Ave. Cars fly over that bridge at unheard of speeds and are putting them in danger. Not to mention the children that play all along that road and at the park at the end of that road. ?Can anyone tell me how we can petition to put speed bumps along that road or at least on both sides of the bridge?

I believe what you need to request...is _traffic enforcement_.  Some enforcement of the 'no fishing from bridge' would be a step in the right direction, too.

Ok, so let's pretend that what I said was I was walking with my elderly mother the other night and she stepped off the sidewalk at the bottom of the bridge to cross the street and a car with loud boisterous music came flying by and almost knocked her on her butt. Is that more acceptable? 

This has everything to do with the safety of our children as well as ANYONE walking or crossing on that street. People, dogs, ducks, etc. are at risk particularly in the evening.? Fishing or NOT we have every right to be at that bridge or in that park or walking across the street.There is limited vision to both drivers and pedestrians due to low light levels, the elevation of the bridge. Look, I am not going to go on and on about what a ridiculous point you think you are?making. But if it was one of your children that got hit or your dog or your spouse you would not be too happy. 
The kids fishing off the bridge are not harmng anything anything as long as throw the fish back, and they do. I have seen numerous law enforcement drive by while the kids are fishing and say nothing. Maybe you don't remember what is was like to a little boy. Maybe you would rather these boys be getting into mischief like breaking into peoples homes and such?

Let the kids alone.  They are good kids.  It gives them something good to do, and keeps them out of trouble.
I've lived by the bridge for many years, and I very rarely see anyone who is speeding during daylight hours.
Try to remember when you were a kid. Watch their faces when they catch something.
 Find another cause.

i will sign a petition to get speed bumps put in our neighborhood i live on 24th ter across from the park since this road runs parallel with military trail everyone uses it? to avoid military trail and daily i see car doing over 50 mph down this road all the time(it's said most of the speeders live in waterford because i see there cars while i walk)....it should be common sense for the city to install speed bumps in front of all parks located withen the city? brian

 This evening I attended the city commission meeting on the budget. While I
was there I passed the information about the concerns of some residents
about cars etc. speeding in areas where our children and residents play and
walk.  Bill Ganz our commissioner will be working with the Chief of Police
to see what can be done . I have asked Barbara Conrey a former WHOA
President and our present Treasurer to post some information on speed bumps
that your Board of Directors discussed with the city officials about two
years ago.  You should be hearing from her shortly.  Our city officials do
not favor speed bumps and the like for many reasons. Two are for the safety
of the fire and ambulance equipment driving over these road bumps and the
second is the  financial impact on our city.  Your commission meets the
first and 

third Tuesday of every month.   Any resident may address the commission by
requesting to do so by writing to the City Clerk.  This information is on
the city's website.

I personally appreciate the concerns and opinions expressed today, however
our Vice President Lu has sent up another avenue for this exchange of ideas,
so we don't get our homeowners email  bogged down.   He will be sending this
information to all on our email list shortly. If  I and your other board
members can help you please let us know.  I will follow up with Bill and his
working with the Chief of Police about the speeding. I am sure he will be
letting us know what can be done.  Please be patient as he is knee deep in
budget matters and fighting to save our tax dollars.

Other people in the past have asked about speed bumps.? The Waterford Home Owners Association asked the city about that project at a WHOA meeting about two years?ago.? 
It was explained to us that the city had tried to work with different communities that were requesting speed bumps and had spent time and money to that end and then when the speed bumps were approved by the city, other neighbors?angrily opposed the speed bumps and said that they were not? consulted.? The city decided to take the position that, a high percentage (I don't remember the number)?of the entire neighborhood would have to sign a petition for the speed bumps in order for the city to even consider doing the work to investigate putting speed bumps in.
It was also mentioned that people ran over the yards of the neighbors who lived next to the speed bumps, damaging their yards.? Also,?some people commented that they do?not want speed?bumps in our neighborhood.
There was a lot more information given at the time.? Because of access for emergency vehicles, some streets cannot have speed bumps.? That may be what one of the emailers was referring to about 28th Ave and 15th Street.? By the time the city got through explaining everything, we decided?not to go forward.?

I'm not sure you received my email,  I called city hall and found that
Clamsters did not pull a permit for Sunday. The head of Parks and Rec is
going to go to them and

Inform them that they can not continue working this way.  THE CITY MANAGER
GOT INVOLVED AND HAD THE Chief of Police call to find out what happened on
Sunday. He is going to talk to the management and will send police through
the area to check on them.  I thanked all of them and promised to follow up

Did you see Clamsters on Sunday? It was so loud ! We complained but they
would turn it down and then it would get loud again.

What can we do to stop any future events like this?

I?m not sure you received my email,  I called city hall and found that Clamsters did not pull a permit for Sunday. The head of Parks and Rec is going to go to them and
Inform them that they can not continue working this way.  THE CITY MANAGER GOT INVOLVED AND HAD THE Chief of Police call to find out what happened on Sunday. He is going to talk to the management and will send police through the area to check on them.  I thanked all of them and promised to follow up with each of them.  Thanks for letting me know   Joan
