That's the good news. Now for the bad news. The "quiet diesel generator" is not so quiet. Unfortunately, this mud recirculation pump must run for 20 minutes every hour throughout the night. Tomorrow morning, concrete will be poured into the anular space between the 2 casing pipes. I hope this doesn't cause much of an inconvenience. Most of you have seen his email I sent last year in late November. Well I just discovered that the infestation has returned to our neighborhood and if you act now, you can save your trees / shrubs before they lose all of the leaves. Don't ignore it.. You might be looking out your window as you read this and say to yourself "I don't see anything wrong" I urge you to look a little closer.. You should notice that the leaves are starting to turn a bit lighter green or yellow. Look for the amount of leaves that have dropped to the ground. If you do not see this, then you might have had a treatment earlier this year that still is taking a positive effect. However, you should know that the recommended treatment is twice a year.. The good news is that you can treat this yourself if you do not want to pay for a professional. Last year, I think I paid about $120 for Trugreen to come do our 75 foot hedge. If you head over to Lowes, they have the correct treatment that includes the chemical Imidacloprid in the product called BAYER ADVANCED Tree & Shrub Protect & Feed Concentrate. Item #: 163006 It costs only $19.97 There is also a larger quantity 1-Gallon Item#: 149106 available for $69.97 for yards with much larger quantity or needs. 687073015102.jpg 687073015157.jpg If you end up getting a professional to do this for you, be sure the following is followed: 1: Make sure they are using Imidacloprid, which is a systemic pesticide that protects the ficus from the inside out. 2: They should inject the solution into the roots, and only drench the roots if they are spraying directly onto dirt (No leaves or mulch present) 3: They should not need to spray the leaves. Spraying the leaves can kill all the beneficial pests on the plants Just remember not to ignore this.. Even my neighbor did not take my warning seriously and a week later he noticed that he can now see car from SW 10th st passing by from his living room. So now he is taking action.. This will happen so fast, you will not even know it until it is too late and the leaves have mostly fallen off. Good luck and talk to you all again soon. Lu Vencl VP WHOA From: Lu Vencl [mailto:lfv at pobox.com] On Behalf Of board at waterfordhomes.org Sent: Sunday, November 23, 2008 12:46 PM To: 'email at waterfordhomes.org' Subject: [Email] Ficus Whitefly alert update! (Please read, this means you!) FYI I had a call from a homeowner that shared with me the fact that he thought his ficus hedges and plants were not infected and that he did not have a concern. Then after he had his hedge trimmed, he saw the horror of the fact that he can see right through his hedge. This is exactly what happened to our hedge. So let me reiterate these facts: . Everyone is infected. Trust me on this. I have not found one yard with ficus that are not. . DO NOT TRIM YOUR FICUS HEDGES at this time. It may save your hedges. They need leaves in order to survive. . DO NOT OVERWATER THE HEDGES. This may lead to root rot. . Soil application is the best method. Sprays alone are likely not to correct the problem. . Get professional help ASAP. DO NOT DELAY. As many are finding out, some hedges are already too far gone and will most likely die. See this PDF for more details. Also, I ended up using Trugreen as they had the best price. They quoted me .75 cents a linear foot. It is that time again to help out your homeowners association. Your board has been working hard to help keep this community the best place to live and it could not happen without the financial support of it's homeowners such as yourself. The latest expenditure cost the association some money to get professional consultants to attend commissioner meetings to fight the water well project. Without the efforts and financial support, we would have been in a worse off situation regarding the project. Living in a volunteer homeowners association I think most of us will agree is much better than in a community where monthly dues can run well over $100 a month. For the most part, the residents of Waterford Homes do take care of their yards and homes, and the volunteer homeowners association is just an added plus for to help keep you informed regarding issues involving our community. The WHOA also goes to bat for the residents when it involves issues needing to be addressed at commissioner meetings, crime prevention, or other city matters. If you could please consider helping out with a donation using the below paypal link, it would be appreciated. https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick &hosted_button_id=9213353 The suggested amount is $10 a year.. Whatever you feel you can afford will be graciously accepted. If you do not use Paypal and would rather send a check payable to Waterford Homeowners Association and send to: Barbara Conrey (Treasure) 2440 SW 12th St Deerfield Beach, FL 33442 Your board members appreciate your consideration of this donation drive. Also, if anyone would like to get involved or have questions, please contact the board at board at waterfordhomes.org Thanks again WHOA Board Members -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... I, myself, is working on hosting one as well. But this idea came up and I'd like to share it with you all. Why not have a community yard sale? The way I envision this is that anyone who wants to participate, can do it all together on the same day. Nothing special to do but put your items in your driveway and make some money. I plan to advertise this as a whole neighborhood yard sale in the newspaper in hopes to bring in a lot of people. Saturday, November 14, 2009 is the date set to make this happen. This should not only give you time to prepare for this event, but this is a perfect time to clean up and clear out our homes while generating some extra cash for the upcoming holidays. My own yardsale ,on this day is, commited. I have already confirmed the date with another neighbor who is having one, too. If there are any takers to this idea, please, feel free to email me back. We thank you for your generosity. At this time, we have received four. The money we receive will help us with postage for mailings. Also, we must keep our registration with the State of Florida current or we will fall into receivership with the State, as these fees are required by law. At the present time, our funds are essentially depleted and we need to replenish the funds to ensure that we can keep our neighborhood the way it is and represented, both locally and statewide. Your board members were responsible for the traffic light on 28th St. and the cut in off 10th onto 24th, as well as the sidewalk repairs that took place throughout the community. We have worked with Code Enforcement to assist residents with problems they have had due to foreclosures. We have assisted residents on 28th with the noise and problems created by Clamster's (motor cycles, loud music, blocking off entrances and parking in no parking areas.) A few months back there were dead animals (we believe goats) on city property facing 10th St. off 24th. We worked with city officials until they were removed. We have worked with our police chief to bring BSO into our neighborhood in an attempt to slow down speeders, and have more presence to prevent crime. At the present time, a small group of homeowners are working together to install a camera system that will help BSO in identifying criminal activity that may take place in our neighborhood. Many of your board members are active on city boards and important programs such as COPS and CERT, as well as Committees, such as the Cultural Committee (that work all through the year to raise money for scholarships) and the newly created ad hoc Ethics Committee. Your homeowners association is represented at the West Deerfield Community Alliance by three members, one of which is the Secretary. As a volunteer group, we try to keep residents who are on our email list as informed as possible about problems that effect or will effect our community and our property values. We are vigilant with the DOT in their desire to widen 10th Street, or worse construct a fly over. Our District 4 Commissioner (Ganz) represents us on the county MPO and knows that we are adamantly opposed to any widening or flyover effort on SW 10th Street. All of these activities keep Waterford Homes actively involved and represented throughout our community. If you can send your donation, please do it now ! Please help us by getting more of your neighbors to get on the email list and send in their donations also. Every donation, small or large, is welcomed and will help keep our community in tact!
