The board has worked hard to make some progress on this project so this is important that we have a presence at this meeting. It is intend to act as leverage to make sure the city does keep their promise of what we have already negotiated. If you are not familiar with this project, we urge you to take a look at this link. http://www.waterfordhomes.org/dfbproject/ Items of interest include: . Potential risk of the protective barrier removal between the well and the community . Changes to building plans (aesthetics concern) . Entrance signs already promised by the city . Project timeline The board urges you to try to make every effort to attend. After leaving his home and driving away, he spotted someone coming out of the bushes along Military trail. See maps below for area involved. After some thought, he decided safer than sorry and called the police. It took only 2 minutes before the deputy pulled up and soon discovered that this person had a warrant out for his arrest. It is unclear if a home was broken into, but it is clear that the action of one of our residents paid off. This should serve as a reminder that looking out for our neighborhood is a good thing. By the way, we had some recent work done to our home and I received three calls from various neighbors wanting to make sure that our house was not being broken into. With the beginning of the hurricane season, many north Floridians, still dealing with the aftermath of the late March storms and flooding, are urged to think seriously now about re-stocking their emergency kits and reviewing their disaster plans. The Federal Emergency Management Agency and Florida's Division of Emergency Management want residents to be prepared and ready to evacuate if ordered to do so. Both organizations offer easy-to-use disaster planning guides for families to use in devising their own readiness plan. The guides are available at possiblefraudstart "www.fema.gov" possiblefraudend www.floridadisaster.org or www.ready.gov . Helpful information about reducing flood risks and the importance of flood insurance is available at www.floodsmart.gov . Here's what to do now: Review your family disaster plan. * Where will you go in an evacuation? Will you stay with family or friends, go to a motel or shelter? Don't forget about pets. Many shelters will not permit them, so know in advance where pet-friendly shelters are located; * Know your evacuation routes and stay current with traffic reports; and * Go over your family's communication plan. Have a friend or relative in another state or city serve as a point of contact in case family members are separated. Check or restock your portable disaster kit in case of evacuation. It should include: * At least a three-day supply of food and bottled water for each family member; * A manual can opener; * Battery-powered radio and flashlights with extra batteries; * First aid kit with family members' medications; * Hygiene and personal care items; * Emergency contact list and phone numbers; * Pet supplies; * Copies of important papers, including insurance policies and bank account information; and * Emergency cash and credit card in the case of an evacuation with little notice. Stay informed about storm threat, know risks, and be prepared to evacuate. * If evacuation or a storm seems likely, reinforce windows and garage doors against strong winds; * Be ready to move if you are instructed to leave your home for an evacuation; * If you do not have a car, plan now for alternative means of transportation; * If any family member has special needs, you should inform local emergency managers as part of your disaster planning; and * Remember; don't drive through water that may contain submerged hazards. You may also want to inquire about emergency plans at places where your family spends time: work, daycare and school. If no plan exists, consider volunteering to help create one. Talk to your neighbors about how you can work together in the event of an emergency. You will be better prepared to safely reunite your family and loved ones during an emergency if you think ahead and communicate with others in advance. FEMA leads and supports the nation in a risk-based, comprehensive emergency management system of preparedness, protection, response, recovery, and mitigation, to reduce the loss of life and property and protect the nation from all hazards including natural disasters, acts of terrorism and man-made disasters. The suspect is a black male, approximately 5'10" with a medium build and wearing 'dreadlocks' style hair. The vehicle is described as a dark blue or dark green Nissan with tinted windows and dark (smoked) headlights. Be on the lookout for this vehicle and / or individual and report any sighting to the Sheriff's office, but do not approach. A perimeter had been immediately set up, but the suspect was not apprehended, so it's possible he may return to the neighborhood. C.O.P. patrols have the vehicle and suspect description and will continue to patrol area. These are of grave concern to our neighbors closest to the area. We addressed these concerns with Commissioner Ganz who met at the proposed job site on Thursday night to see exactly what we were worried about,. At this time all parties involved at CITY HALL have been made aware of our concerns and we are waiting for their reply. I would like to thank those of you who attended the meeting last Wed. Please be sure to lock all doors, and if you do not have an alarm system, please consider getting one. If you are looking for recommendations, please reply back as I can perhaps help with that. For the most part, people with properly installed alarm systems with adequate coverage have been spared. Also, many are getting camera systems. If you have one already and have front of the house coverage, please reply to board at waterfordhomes.org so that we can coordinate the potential of securing images that might help us and BSO in indentifying the person(s) involved in the area crimes. Also please be aware of your surroundings. Talk to your neighbors and let them know what your plans are should you leave town. Any strange cars in the area should be reported. Last week one alert neighbor spotted a suspicious person, reported it and within 5 minutes, BSO made an arrest. Here is the latest area hit. No virus found in this incoming message. Message-ID: Hopefully most of you are aware that last night all analog TV transmitters have been shut down and many stations retuned. The Federal Communications Commission office in Miami has asked me to remind all residence of Waterford Homes about the importance of rescanning your TV tuners / decoders today as many channels will not come in because of the retuning of some channels last night at midnight. If all of your TV' are attached to Cable, U-Verse , or satellite, you will NOT be affected. For those of you that have portable TV's in another room with rabbit ears, or you take advantage of HD signals off the air with an antenna this affects you. Speaking of which, if you have a portable TV in your hurricane kit, it will no longer work without a converter. Radio Shack has the new portable TV's with built in DTV tuners.. More about this in a future communication. For more information, you can go to http://www.dtv.gov/ for details.. If you would like to email me regarding your question, I will do my best to get back to you. Also for those of you that might cherish the last moments of an analog shut down, I have uploaded a video that might be of interest to you. It is WPTV's last moments transmitting on the air in analog. I happen to know the Engineer and I also had done some work at Ch 5 years ago so we both had a tear or two on Friday morning to see history go by. She grabbed a hose and made quick work of that one. However on further investigation she found the Fire Department putting out more fires. It seems someone who owns a business in our neighborhood was taking boxes in his truck to be recycled and somehow or another the boxes ignited and were falling off his truck. Once he became aware he called the Fire Department and all was under control. Thanks Barbara. Whatever happened to our quiet Waterford Homes Community. What's been happening with this project? Your association board and several concerned residents have been actively participating in meetings, calls and workshops with the city. Our goal has been to minimize the impact on the value of our homes in our community while still allowing the city to develop three water wells for city water use in the vacant lots between SW 24th and SW 28th Avenues on SW 10th Street. At this point, we have managed to move the water well building 15 feet further away from the homes and received a commitment from the city to keep the sound berm in tact. However, we have not yet been able to achieve all of our goals, including having the city research moving the building away from all resident homes to a new location, using natural gas generators instead of diesel generators and providing all the landscaping necessary to replace the foliage that was torn away two years ago (when the city started this project). At this point, we are rapidly approaching the start date for the project (July 6th). This project is planned to continue for 13 months and will impact the look, sight and sounds in our community. Since we have not been able to review all of the engineering research and documentation surrounding this project and the feasibility of moving the building away from the residential homes, we have asked our commissioner to place an agenda item on the city agenda for Tuesday night's meeting that asks for the city to delay the start of the project until all options can be thoroughly investigated. We need your support in asking the city to postpone the start of the project until all options have been researched so that we can obtain the best possible outcome for our community. This building, where it is placed and how it looks will ultimately affect the value of every home in our community. Please call the city commissioner's office and leave a message for Mayor Nolan and Commissioner Ganz, asking them to vote to delay the start of this project at this time. Since the home is adjacent Deer Creek, I thought it might be prudent to pass this along just in case this vehicle shows up in our community. Two guns were stolen and this was a white young male according to one of his neighbors that was witnessed. Entry was through a window that happened to have that zone disabled due to excessive false alarms. It was dumb luck that that window was used. ( A lesson learned here to not delay alarm repairs) The attached contains a photo that was taken from one of the neighbor's security cameras. Just as a reminder, if you have a security camera that has the ability to capture vehicles driving through the neighborhood such as the one in this photo, please email the board at board at waterfordhomes.org so that in the event we need to capture some videos at a given time perhaps your system might help catch a burglar. The board will maintain the list and contact you if your help is needed. Lu Vencl VP Waterford Homes -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
